The Ghana Police Service Western Regional Command intercepted a convoy of high-end luxury vehicles believed to have been stolen from various locations in Accra. According to a report from 3News, the tactical operation took place along a major highway known as a transit route for smuggled goods. The police personnel acted on intelligence regarding the movement of the vehicles toward a neighboring country.
During the interception, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the patrol team to evade arrest. A report from Citi Newsroom indicates that the police officers returned fire and successfully immobilized the convoy. No fatalities were reported among the security forces during the exchange. The police managed to apprehend four male suspects at the scene while others allegedly fled into nearby bushes.
The seized vehicles include several unmarked SUVs and premium sedans that were reported missing by owners in the Greater Accra Region over the past week. A statement attributed to the Western Regional Police PRO notes that the vehicles underwent unauthorized modifications to their chassis numbers and license plates. These details were cross-referenced with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority database during the initial processing of the evidence.
The four suspects are currently being held at the Western Regional Police Headquarters for interrogation. According to a GhanaWeb report, the individuals face preliminary charges involving conspiracy to commit crime, possession of stolen property, and the use of offensive weapons. Investigators are working to identify the potential buyers located across the border and to determine if the group has links to a larger organized crime syndicate.
The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public who recently reported stolen luxury vehicles to visit the regional command with proof of ownership for identification. Formal court proceedings are expected to begin once the Criminal Investigation Department completes its forensic analysis of the recovered vehicles and ballistic evidence from the shootout. The identities of the suspects have not yet been released to the public pending further verification.
