The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest of three individuals suspected of conducting a series of violent robberies against gold dealerships in the Obuasi municipality. According to a Citi Newsroom report, the operation was executed by a specialized intelligence unit that had been tracking the movements of the gang for several weeks.

Official statements from the Ashanti Regional Police Command indicate that the suspects allegedly targeted high value transactions within the local mining industry. The police reported that the group is believed to be responsible for multiple incidents where gold dealers were held at gunpoint and robbed of both precious minerals and various sums of cash.

During the arrest, law enforcement officers recovered items suspected to be used in the commission of these crimes. A GhanaWeb report noted that the police have seized communication devices and other evidence which are currently being analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation into the criminal network operating in the Ashanti Region.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigators work to verify their potential involvement in other unsolved robberies across the region. A Graphic Online report suggests that the police will soon process the trio for court where they will face charges including conspiracy to commit crime and robbery. No injuries were reported during the successful apprehension of the suspects according to the initial police briefing.
