Police in Tarkwa have arrested a 45-year-old man. He is accused of running illegal mining operations.
The incident happened in the Nzema East Municipality.
Authorities received a tip about the illegal activity.
Officers went to the location and found the man with mining equipment.
The Ghana Police Service stated that the suspect was apprehended following the tip-off.
He is currently in police custody.
The suspect is expected to be brought before a court soon.
Illegal mining, often called galamsey, continues to be a significant challenge.
