The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest of three individuals suspected of operating a car snatching syndicate within the Greater Accra Region. Official police reports indicate that the suspects identified as Prince Chidiebere Ogbodo and Divine Onuoha were apprehended alongside an accomplice at their hideout in Accra. The operation followed a series of intelligence led investigations into reported thefts involving Uber and Bolt vehicles.
According to a report by MyJoyOnline the suspects allegedly posed as passengers to lure drivers to secluded areas before attacking them and seizing their vehicles. During the arrest officers retrieved two Toyota Vitz vehicles which the Ghana Police Service stated were confirmed as stolen property. Citinewsroom reported that the police also seized a locally manufactured pistol and ammunition during the search of the premises.
The Ghana Police Service stated that the suspects are currently in custody and assisting with further investigations to locate other vehicles linked to the group. Adom Online reported that the suspects frequently changed the number plates and colors of stolen cars to avoid detection by security cameras and checkpoints. Investigators are currently working to verify if the group is linked to other unsolved robberies in the capital.
The suspects have not yet been formally charged in a court of law but are expected to face counts related to robbery and possession of illegal firearms. A GhanaWeb report noted that the police have urged ride hailing drivers to remain vigilant and report suspicious passenger behavior immediately. The authorities have vowed to continue their crackdown on organized crime syndicates targeting the transport sector.
