According to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), a new intervention titled Operation Greenshield will soon commence at the Atiwa Forest Reserve. The Director of Operations at NAIMOS, Colonel K. S. Appiah, stated that the initiative aims to disrupt illegal mining activities, prevent miners from returning to cleared sites, and establish long-term protection for the forest reserve. The operation will follow a three-stage approach: clearing and disrupting illegal activities, holding and stabilizing the affected areas, and transitioning responsibility to the Forestry Commission for routine monitoring. Colonel Appiah noted that the government, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, has committed to providing the necessary funding and logistical support for these efforts. The strategy is designed to allow NAIMOS to eventually redirect its personnel to other priority locations while ensuring that secured areas remain protected by the relevant state agencies.
