Officers from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) arrested three suspected illegal miners. This happened in the Bekwai Municipality, Ashanti Region. The taskforce had seized equipment used for illegal mining.

The suspects then offered a GHC119,000 bribe to the officers. The bribe was meant to secure the release of their seized equipment. However, the NAIMOS taskforce refused the offer.

Instead, the officers arrested the three individuals. They are now facing charges related to their illegal mining activities. They also face charges for attempting to bribe public officials.

A NAIMOS spokesperson confirmed the arrests. The spokesperson stated that the taskforce remains committed to fighting illegal mining. They also aim to prosecute those who attempt to corrupt law enforcement.
