The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested 3 suspects during a raid on an alleged illegal mining site at Enchi in the Western North Region.
According to Adom Online, several other people ran into the forest to avoid arrest. NAIMOS seized equipment believed to have been used for illegal mining and burned other equipment found at the site.
In a separate report, Adom Online said NAIMOS operatives, accompanied by journalists, destroyed hundreds of Changfan machines in an intensified operation to drive illegal miners off the Tano River.
The Commanding Officer of the NAIMOS Enchi Detachment, Captain Bright Mawuli Amegah, told Adom News that his men are committed to clamping down on illegal mining along the river until the miners are driven away.
NAIMOS leadership said it will step up operations across the country to break up illegal mining networks, and asked the public to pass on credible information about people involved.
The identities of the 3 suspects and any charges have not been reported. They remain presumed innocent.
