The Narcotics Control Commission has announced the arrest of a woman it describes as a major figure in the local drug trade following a coordinated operation in Buduburam and surrounding communities in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.

The operation was carried out on Friday, January 16, 2026, as part of NACOC’s nationwide campaign against illicit drug trafficking and abuse. The main suspect, identified as Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, aged 32 and popularly known as “Mother,” was taken into custody during the raid.

According to NACOC, the suspect had been under surveillance for some time due to intelligence linking her to multiple drug trafficking activities in the area. Officials said she had previously evaded arrest despite repeated complaints from residents and local opinion leaders.

During the operation, NACOC officers seized quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled drugs. Items believed to be connected to drug peddling were also retrieved from the locations searched. The Commission did not immediately disclose the quantities involved, citing ongoing investigations.

Several other individuals believed to be involved in drug-related activities were also arrested during the operation. NACOC said all persons picked up are assisting with investigations and will be processed in accordance with the law.

Local sources in Buduburam described the suspect as a well-known figure whose alleged activities had generated concern within the community for some time. However, NACOC stressed that all allegations remain subject to investigation and that those arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.

In a statement, the Commission said it has received numerous complaints regarding drug peddling and abuse in the area, which informed the decision to intensify surveillance and carry out the operation.

NACOC reiterated its commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks and reducing the availability of illicit drugs across the country. The Commission urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing information on suspected drug-related activities.

Investigations into the Buduburam operation are ongoing, and NACOC says further arrests are possible as inquiries continue
