A Ghanaian suspect identified as the alleged leader of a land guard organization has been remanded into police custody for two weeks. The presiding judge at the Akropong Circuit Court delivered the ruling after prosecutors requested more time to conclude investigations into various criminal activities linked to the suspect across the Kasoa municipality according to a MyJoyOnline report.

The suspect is accused of organizing groups of men to terrorize property developers and residents in the Central Region. These groups reportedly use intimidation and force to stop construction projects or demand unauthorized payments from landowners. Citi Newsroom reports that the police conducted a targeted operation to apprehend the individual following numerous complaints from members of the public who cited frequent harassment and physical threats.

During the court proceedings the prosecution emphasized that the suspect poses a potential flight risk and could interfere with ongoing investigations if granted bail at this stage. The court agreed with the police assessment as relayed in statements from the Ghana Police Service regarding the restoration of law and order in Kasoa. The suspect has not yet entered a formal plea to the charges brought against him regarding illegal surveillance and organized violence.

The Accra and Central regional police commands have increased patrols in the Millennium City and Kasoa areas to deter further activities by similar land guard groups. While MyJoyOnline identifies the suspect as a prominent figure in the local land guard hierarchy the Ghana Police Service has cautioned that other members of the syndicate remain at large and are currently being pursued by intelligence units. The case is scheduled to return to the Akropong Circuit Court in fourteen days for further mention.
