Officers from the Ghana Revenue Authority Customs Division made a significant seizure at Tema Port. They found 560 diesel engines at the Golden Jubilee Terminal.

The engines, identified as CHANG FANG brand, were flagged during a routine cargo inspection.

Authorities suspect these engines were brought into the country for use in illegal small-scale gold mining activities.

These illegal mining operations are commonly referred to as galamsey.

The Ghana Revenue Authority is committed to preventing the import of goods used for illegal activities.

Further investigations are expected to determine the full scope of the operation.

This action is part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining and its environmental impact.
