Immigration officers have arrested over a thousand people involved in street begging. The operation targeted networks suspected of trafficking people, especially children.

A total of 1,055 individuals were apprehended. Among those arrested were 662 children who were being used in street begging.

The Immigration Service conducted these operations in two major cities, Accra and Kumasi. These cities have seen an increase in street begging activities.

The arrests are part of a larger effort to dismantle trafficking rings. These groups exploit vulnerable individuals, including children, for financial gain.

Minors rescued during the operation will receive support. The Immigration Service stated that further investigations are underway to identify all individuals involved in the trafficking schemes.

This action aims to protect children from exploitation and ensure their safety. It also addresses concerns about organized crime operating under the guise of street begging.
