Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, has stated that the fight against illegal mining, known as galamsey, needs broader involvement.

He believes the effort cannot be left solely to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

Dr. Ashigbey specifically called for intelligence agencies to play a more active role.

He wants these agencies to track and prosecute individuals who import excavators used for illegal mining activities.

This call highlights a need for a more coordinated approach involving security and intelligence services to curb galamsey.
