Police have arrested five men in the Western Region. The arrests were made during a special operation.

The men are accused of illegal mining. They were also found with weapons that were not licensed.

The police conducted a swoop to stop illegal mining activities in the area.

The Ghana Police Service stated that the suspects were taken into custody for further questioning.

Illegal mining, often called galamsey, is a serious problem in Ghana.

Authorities are working to stop these activities which damage the environment.

The investigation into the weapons possession is also ongoing.

The suspects will face legal charges according to the Police statement.
