Fishermen working in Ghanaian territorial waters made a surprising discovery at sea. They found a large number of AK-47 assault rifles floating on the water.

A total of 165 rifles were recovered. The fishermen brought the weapons ashore.

The Ghana Navy was alerted to the find. Naval officers have taken custody of all 165 assault rifles.

Authorities are now investigating where the weapons came from. They are also trying to determine where they were intended to go.

This discovery raises questions about illegal arms smuggling in the region.

The Navy stated that a full investigation into the origin and purpose of the seized firearms is underway.
