Officials from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority at the Aflao border post intercepted a consignment of small arms being smuggled into the country from Togo. According to reports from the Ghana News Agency and Graphic Online, the weapons were discovered during a routine physical examination of a commercial vehicle entering through the border frontier.

Customs officials stated that the seized items consisted of various light weapons that were carefully concealed to avoid detection. A report by Citi Newsroom indicates that the vehicle was flagged for a secondary search after officers noticed suspicious discrepancies in the cargo manifest and the behavior of the transport crew.

The Ghana News Agency reports that one individual believed to be the driver or an accomplice was detained following the discovery. The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further interrogation. The Daily Graphic notes that the exact quantity of weapons is being processed by forensic experts to determine the caliber and origin of the hardware.

Security agencies have intensified surveillance at the eastern corridor of the border following this incident. The Ghana Revenue Authority confirmed in a situational report that the intercepted weapons are currently held in state custody as exhibits for any upcoming legal proceedings. No formal charges have been announced yet as investigations remain in the preliminary stages.
