The Ashanti Regional Police Command successfully apprehended 15 individuals suspected of operating as land guards in the Bosomtwe District. According to a 3News report the arrests occurred during a coordinated early morning tactical sweep on Monday. Officials noted that the suspects allegedly used violence and intimidation to secure disputed lands and harass residents living within the district.

A report by GhanaWeb indicates that the operation followed numerous complaints from community members regarding the activities of armed groups. These groups reportedly obstructed development projects and threatened the safety of property owners. The police task force moved in to neutralize these threats as part of a broader regional strategy to eliminate land related crimes and vigilantism.

The Graphic Online confirms that the suspects are currently being held at the regional headquarters for questioning and further investigation. Authorities stated that tools and implements used in their alleged activities were retrieved during the raid. The police have not yet released the specific names of all 15 individuals pending formal charges in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Police representatives told Citi Newsroom that the exercise intends to serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements in the Ashanti Region. The command emphasized that the activities of land guards remain illegal under the Land Act 2020 which criminalizes the use of force to protect or reclaim land. Further updates on the legal proceedings are expected as the investigation continues.
