Four concrete mixers worth more than GH¢800,000, supplied to the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly in the Northern Region under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), have been stolen.
According to Modern Ghana, the disclosure was made before Parliament's Local Government and Rural Development Committee during a two-week public hearing at which several assemblies reported missing DRIP equipment that had neither been documented nor insured.
Sagnarigu Municipal Coordinating Director Mahmoud M. Osman told the committee each mixer was worth more than GH¢200,000. He said they were taken from the premises of the Urban Roads Department, close to the police headquarters, during the violence that followed the 2024 general election.
He said the assembly reported the theft to the police but had yet to receive any report on the whereabouts of the equipment, and that the machines came without supporting documents when they were supplied through the District Assemblies Common Fund.
The committee's chairperson, Queenstar Pokua Sawyerr, said there was no documentation for DRIP machines across the country, making stolen equipment difficult to trace, and described the losses as a waste of public resources.
No arrests have been reported in connection with the theft.
