The Ghana Police Service has arrested a former police officer who rents out property near the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA-Legon), following allegations of mistreatment made by a tenant.
According to Chale News, citing GhanaWeb, the tenant had described on social media what she called persistent mistreatment at the property, alleging verbal abuse, physical altercations and deliberate cuts to the water supply.
The tenant also alleged that the landlady's dog had bitten tenants several times, that complaints were brushed aside, and that the landlady changed the locks, shutting out tenants who had already paid for their rooms.
A video of the arrest, cited by Chale News, shows the woman resisting being handcuffed outside the property before she was taken away in a police vehicle.
The allegations are the tenant's and have not been tested in court. The landlady's response was not reported.
Police have not made public any charges or the outcome of their investigation. The woman is presumed innocent.
