NPP alleges service passports issued to 6 over false job titles

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has alleged that the government issued diplomatic and service passports to 6 people who used false or inaccurate public service job titles to obtain them.

According to Daily Guide Network, the party has petitioned the United States Embassy in Ghana over the claims. The petition, presented by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, asks the embassy to deny visas and diplomatic courtesies to passport holders who cannot substantiate the official positions stated in their applications.

The party alleges that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs approved the passports on the basis of job titles linked to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Fisheries Commission, and claims some of the positions either do not exist or are not held by those named.

The NPP is calling for the passports to be cancelled, for a list of all diplomatic and service passports issued since January 2025 to be published, and for an independent investigation led by the Auditor-General or another body outside the ministry.

The government had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication, according to the report.

The claims are allegations by a political party and have not been tested by any investigation or court. Those named in the petition have not been accused of any offence by the authorities.
