The Oti Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with the unlawful possession and transportation of a firearm and a significant quantity of ammunition without lawful authority.
According to an official police press release issued from the Regional Headquarters in Dambai, officers from the Oti Regional Police Intelligence Department, acting on intelligence-led information, intercepted a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS-4677-17 on February 8, 2026.
Police reports indicate that the vehicle was travelling from Accra towards Kpandai in the Northern Region when it was stopped for inspection. A subsequent search of the truck allegedly uncovered one locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and twenty-one boxes of ammunition. These items were reportedly concealed among building materials being transported in the vehicle.
The seized ammunition comprised a total of five hundred and twenty-five pieces of Lion AAA and BB cartridges. The driver of the truck, identified as Abubakari Salam Atta, aged 35, and his mate, Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, aged 19, were arrested at the scene. Police state that both suspects claimed ownership of the firearm and ammunition.
The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations, and are expected to be arraigned before court in due course.
