The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu, has asked the government to urgently review the Blue Water Guards program. This call follows claims of bribery and impersonation involving nine members of the group.

Mr. Konadu, who is also a former Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, made this statement on his social media pages.

He expressed concern that Ghana's rivers are suffering from illegal mining activities.

The MP believes the current program needs significant changes to be effective.

He stated that the nation's water bodies cannot afford another unsuccessful attempt to combat illegal mining.

The Blue Water Guards were established to help fight illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

Allegations of misconduct have raised questions about their operations.

Mr. Konadu's call highlights the ongoing challenges in protecting Ghana's natural resources.
