The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has discovered that chemicals are being used to make fruits like plantains ripen faster. This practice is harmful to people's health.

The FDA has identified at least one person who is buying these farm chemicals. This person is suspected of using them on fruits to make them look ripe before they naturally are.

Despite these findings, the FDA has not yet announced any specific actions taken against those responsible. Details about arrests, court proceedings, or any penalties have not been made public.

Roderick Kwabena Daddey Agyei, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, confirmed the discovery. He stated that the Authority found evidence of this illegal activity.

The use of such chemicals can pose serious health risks to consumers. Fruits ripened artificially may not be safe to eat.

The FDA is responsible for ensuring that food sold in Ghana is safe for consumption. This includes monitoring the use of chemicals in food production and preparation.

Further information regarding the investigation and any upcoming sanctions is expected from the FDA.

The public is often advised to be cautious about the ripeness and appearance of fruits, especially those that seem unnaturally colored or ripened.
