A court in Accra has remanded a man who allegedly impersonated a Ghanaian Army officer to defraud a woman of GH¢192,000 in a land security scam.

According to court documents and police statements, the suspect is accused of presenting himself as a soldier and convincing the complainant that he could facilitate a land security process, a service he claimed was linked to his purported military status.

The alleged fraud came to light after the complainant became suspicious of the transaction and reported the matter to the Police. Inquiries by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) revealed that the suspect did not hold any military rank and had fabricated the identity he used in dealings with the victim.

During initial proceedings before the Accra Circuit Court, a prosecutor informed the court that the suspect had reportedly taken GH¢192,000 from the complainant under false pretences relating to the alleged land security arrangement. The prosecution argued that there was prima facie evidence to support charges of impersonation, defrauding by false pretences and other related offences.

The court, after hearing submissions, remanded the suspect into police custody to allow investigators to complete their enquiries. A re-appearance date was set for February 17, 2026.

The CID is expected to review financial records, communication evidence and any material links to the alleged crime as part of the ongoing investigation.
