The Ghana Police Service has apprehended Benjamin Adu Owusu on suspicion of defrauding several forex traders of a cumulative amount exceeding GHC500,000. MyJoyOnline initially reported the arrest based on police sources.

According to a Ghana Police Service statement issued on October 26 2023, the arrest followed numerous complaints lodged by individuals who claimed to have invested substantial amounts of money into investment schemes operated by Owusu. These schemes, purportedly related to foreign exchange trading, allegedly promised high returns.

Victims, as detailed in reports by Citi Newsroom and GhanaWeb, allege that after making their investments, Benjamin Adu Owusu failed to honor the promised returns or refund their principal amounts. The Commercial Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department CID is leading the investigation into these allegations.

Benjamin Adu Owusu has been charged with defrauding by false pretense according to the Ghana Police Service. He is currently assisting with investigations and is expected to appear in court in Accra soon. The precise date of his court appearance has not been publicly disclosed at the time of this report.
