An 82-year-old woman has lost GHS 50,000 to fraudsters posing as officials from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust SSNIT. The incident is being investigated by the police. This type of scam targets vulnerable citizens relying on their pension funds.

The suspects allegedly contacted the elderly woman and convinced her that there was an issue with her pension benefits. They then tricked her into transferring a large sum of money.

The Ghana Police Service is urging the public to be cautious of unsolicited calls or messages regarding financial matters, especially those related to pensions or investments.

Officials advise citizens to verify the identity of callers claiming to be from official institutions through their known contact channels. SSNIT has official contact points that the public can use to confirm any communication.
