An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a forty five year old man named Richmond Amoah into police custody following his appearance on charges of defrauding by false pretenses. According to a report by GhanaWeb, the accused allegedly collected various sums of money from twelve different individuals under the guise of securing them travel documents and work permits for Canada. The total amount involved is reported to be approximately two hundred and twelve thousand Ghana Cedis.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution stated that the victims were lured by the promise of lucrative job opportunities abroad. A report from the Ghana News Agency indicates that the accused failed to deliver the promised visas and went into hiding for several months before his eventual arrest by the police. The court heard that none of the victims received their documents nor were their payments refunded by the suspect.

Defense counsel requested bail for the accused, arguing that he holds a fixed place of residence and would not interfere with ongoing investigations. However, the presiding judge His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah denied the application for bail based on the gravity of the allegations and the number of complainants involved in the matter. The prosecution argued that the suspect remains a flight risk and needs to be detained while further evidence is gathered from the victims.

The Accra Circuit Court set the next hearing date for later this month to allow the police to complete their witness statements. All claims regarding the specific amount of money and the number of victims are attributed to the prosecution facts presented in court as documented by GhanaWeb and the Ghana News Agency. The accused maintains his innocence and is expected to provide his defense during the upcoming trial sessions.
