The Accra Circuit Court presided over by Judge Samuel Bright Acquah has remanded three individuals into police custody. Graphic Online identifies the accused persons as Peter Kimani Mua who is a Kenyan national alongside Ghanaians Samuel Gyamfi and Anthony Buabeng. The prosecution alleged that the suspects conspired to defraud an investor of five hundred thousand dollars between the months of July and August two thousand and twenty four.
According to court proceedings reported by the Ghana News Agency the suspects allegedly lured the complainant with the promise of selling twenty kilograms of gold bars. The prosecution stated that the investor paid the substantial sum in installments but never received the promised gold or a refund of the capital. The suspects were arrested following a report made to the police after the victim realized the transaction was fraudulent.
The Daily Graphic reports that the defense counsel for the accused persons applied for bail citing that their clients were not flight risks. However the prosecution opposed the application and argued that the investigation into the multi million cedi scam was still ongoing. Judge Acquah denied the bail application and ordered the accused to remain in custody to ensure they do not interfere with the police inquiry.
Court records indicate that the charges preferred against the trio include conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretenses. The Ghana Police Service has been tasked with concluding their witness statements before the next hearing date. The case is scheduled to return to the Accra Circuit Court on the twenty fifth of September two thousand and twenty four for further proceedings.
