The Accra Circuit Court presided over by Judge Samuel Bright Acquah remanded four suspects into police custody following their arrest for an alleged recruitment scam. According to a Graphic Online report the accused persons include Ernest Ansah and three others who were apprehended during a gathering at Osu in the Greater Accra Region. The prosecution state that the group operated under the guise of an agency capable of securing placements within various national security agencies.

Police investigators told the court that the suspects collected varying sums of money from over fifty unsuspecting victims. A Ghana News Agency report indicates that the victims were told the payments would cover medical examinations and training fees for entry into the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service. The authorities arrested the suspects after receiving intelligence regarding a secret meeting where more victims were expected to submit documentation.

During the court proceedings the prosecution alleged that the group had no legal authorization to recruit for any state security wing. The suspects have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretenses. Defense counsel for the accused requested bail but the court denied the application to allow the Ghana Police Service more time to complete their investigations into the matter.

While the Graphic Online report names the primary suspect as Ernest Ansah the identities of the other three accomplices remain unconfirmed by additional official police statements at this time. The court has adjourned the case and ordered the suspects to reappear in two weeks. This case follows several warnings from the Ghana Police Service regarding unofficial recruitment processes conducted through third party agents or social media platforms.
