The Accra Circuit Court presided over by Judge Samuel Bright Acquah has remanded a forty five year old man named as Isaac Kojo Arhin into police custody. Graphic Online reports that the accused faces charges of defrauding by false pretenses after allegedly collecting two hundred thousand Ghana Cedis from several individuals seeking employment.
Court proceedings detailed by the Ghana News Agency state that Arhin allegedly claimed he could secure positions for the victims within the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Immigration Service. Prosecutors told the court that the suspect failed to deliver on these promises and could not return the funds when confronted by the complainants.
Police investigators according to a report by Citi Newsroom claim that the suspect went into hiding after receiving the payments and was only apprehended following a targeted operation. The prosecution argued against bail citing the risk that the defendant might interfere with ongoing investigations into other potential victims in the Greater Accra Region.
The defense counsel requested bail for the accused stating that Arhin is a family man with permanent residence in the capital. However the court denied the application and ordered that the suspect remain in custody until the next hearing scheduled for later this month. All claims against the defendant remain allegations until proven in a court of law according to standard legal procedures.
