An Accra Circuit Court remanded five individuals into police custody facing charges related to an alleged gold fraud scheme totaling one point two million Ghana cedis. According to a Graphic Online report, the suspects include Emmanuel Dziku, Michael Kimpany, Seth Dziku, David Mensah, and Samuel Osei. The court presided over by Isaac Addo took the decision after the suspects pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretenses.

A report from the Ghana News Agency states that the prosecution alleged the suspects lured a foreign investor from the United Kingdom to Ghana under the guise of selling five kilograms of gold bars. The victim was reportedly directed to a private residence in Accra where he was shown gold colored metal bars which the suspects claimed were genuine gold ready for export.

According to the facts presented in court and cited by Daily Guide Network, the complainant paid a significant sum for documentation and shipping fees before realizing the gold bars were counterfeit. The prosecution informed the court that the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation after the victim reported the matter to the police when the promised delivery failed to materialize.

The defense counsel requested bail for the five accused persons during the initial hearing. However, the prosecution opposed the application by citing the ongoing nature of the investigations and the risk that the suspects might interfere with potential witnesses according to a report by Citi Newsroom. The court subsequently denied the bail request and ordered the suspects to remain in custody until the next scheduled appearance.

Details regarding the exact location of the transaction and the specific roles of each suspect remain under investigation by the Ghana Police Service. The court directed the prosecution to file their witness statements and serve the defense with all necessary disclosures before the case resumes in late October according to court proceedings reported by Graphic Online.
