An Accra Circuit Court has handed down a 10-year prison sentence to two men. They were found guilty of attempting to smuggle cannabis out of the country.
The court ordered that each convict serve the sentence for their crime.
Law enforcement officials apprehended the two individuals at Kotoka International Airport. The arrest occurred as they attempted to export the illegal substance.
At the time of their arrest, they were carrying 30 parcels. These parcels contained dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
The Judicial Service did not provide further details on the legal proceedings beyond the sentencing.
This case highlights ongoing efforts to prevent the trafficking of illegal drugs through Ghanaian transportation hubs.
The conviction serves as a warning against engaging in such criminal activities.
