Officers from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Narcotics Control Commission executed a major seizure at Tema Port involving roughly 500 kilograms of suspected narcotics. According to a MyJoyOnline report, the substances were discovered during a routine inspection of a shipping container that originated from South America. The illegal items were allegedly concealed within compartments of heavy industrial machinery inside the container.

The Narcotics Control Commission stated that the shipment was flagged following intelligence sharing and profiling of high risk cargo arriving at the port. Security personnel discovered the suspicious packages after dismantling parts of the imported machinery. A report from Citi Newsroom indicates that the intercepted material has been transported to a secure facility for forensic testing to determine its chemical composition and purity levels.

No immediate arrests were reported following the discovery at the terminal. Authorities from the Ghana Police Service and the Narcotics Control Commission are currently conducting a joint investigation to identify the local consignees and the international network responsible for the shipment. MyJoyOnline reports that investigators are examining the shipping manifest and documentation provided by the clearing agents involved in the transaction.

The Ghana Revenue Authority has not yet released the names of the individuals or companies listed as the intended recipients of the industrial equipment. Officials noted that the seizure represents a significant intervention in international drug trafficking routes targeting West African ports. Further updates on the specific type of drug and any pending charges will be provided pending the conclusion of the laboratory analysis and the tracing of the suspects.
