Tema police have intercepted a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp. The seizure happened on the Volta River near Tuanikopey Island.

Marine police officers on patrol discovered a wooden canoe. The canoe was powered by an outboard motor.

Inside the canoe, officers found 29 sacks. These sacks contained dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp.

The total seizure included 2,213 slabs of the suspected illegal substance. The interception occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The Tema Regional Police Command confirmed the operation. Further investigations are underway to identify the owners and suppliers.
