A Tamale Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Sheikh Ibrahim Imoro has ordered the remand of two suspects accused of possessing illegal narcotics and an unlicensed shotgun. The suspects were identified in a MyJoyOnline report as individuals apprehended during a routine highway patrol operation in the Northern Region.

The Ghana Police Service reportedly discovered large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in the possession of the accused persons. According to local media accounts including reports from Citi Newsroom, the police also seized an unlicensed shotgun during the search of the vehicle used by the suspects.

Prosecutors informed the court that the substances have been forwarded to forensic laboratories for technical analysis to confirm their chemical composition. The court has scheduled the next hearing for later this month to allow the police adequate time to complete their investigations as reported by Adom Online.

Legal representatives for the accused have not yet secured bail for their clients because of the nature of the charges involving firearms and potential drug trafficking. The suspects remain in police custody while the prosecution gathers further evidence to support the charges of illegal possession of narcotics and a firearm without lawful authority.
