The Northern Regional Police Command successfully intercepted a vehicle on the outskirts of Tamale according to a report from GhanaWeb. Officers discovered several parcels of suspected Indian hemp and other restricted psychotropic medications hidden within the cargo area of the truck. This operation follows increased surveillance on major transit routes within the regional capital.

The two suspects remain in custody while investigations continue into the origin and destination of the substances. A report from Daily Graphic indicates that the police are conducting a forensic analysis on the seized materials to confirm their chemical composition and potency. The names of the suspects have not been officially released to the public at this stage of the investigation.

A statement from the Ghana Police Service through their regional public relations office confirmed that the arrest was part of a broader strategy to curb the movement of illicit drugs in the northern belt. The police stated that the truck has been impounded and is currently at the Regional Police Headquarters for further inspection. Officers are also questioning the driver to determine if more individuals are involved in the distribution network.

Authorities have charged the suspects with unlawful possession of narcotic drugs and are preparing the official case file for the Attorney General's Office. According to Citi Newsroom the suspects are expected to be arraigned before a circuit court in Tamale once the preliminary inquiries are concluded. The police have urged the public to provide information regarding suspicious activities in their local communities to help combat the trade of illegal substances.
