Officers from the Ghana Police Service conducted a targeted intelligence led operation in the Ashaiman Municipality which resulted in the arrest of three individuals suspected of distributing illicit narcotics. According to a Citi Newsroom report the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated raid aimed at dismantling drug distribution hubs within the Greater Accra Region.
The operation led to the recovery of several compressed parcels containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The Ghana Police Service indicated that the substances will undergo forensic analysis at the laboratory of the Criminal Investigations Department to confirm their chemical composition and potency. This detail was further corroborated by a GhanaWeb report which stated that the exercise was part of a larger strategy to curb the spread of illegal drugs.
Police officials have identified the suspects as key distributors within the Ashaiman area according to the initial Citi Newsroom report. The authorities noted that the team also seized various items used in the packaging and weighing of the suspected narcotics. These items are currently being held as evidence at the Ashaiman Divisional Police Headquarters as the legal process against the suspects begins.
The Ghana Police Service has not yet released the specific identities or ages of the three suspects pending further profiling and formal charges. A report from MyJoyOnline noted that the suspects are expected to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction once preliminary investigations are completed. The police continue to urge members of the public to provide information on criminal activities within their communities.
