The Narcotics Control Commission known as NACOC intercepted a significant quantity of compressed herbal substances at the Hohoe border in the Volta Region. According to a report by Modern Ghana the operation led to the discovery of 54 sacks filled with material suspected to be cannabis. The seizure occurred following intelligence led surveillance in the border area.

A statement from the Narcotics Control Commission indicates that the consignment was being transported in a vehicle when it was stopped by enforcement officers. GhanaWeb reported that the suspects attempted to move the illegal goods through an unapproved route before the intervention of the security team. The commission has confirmed that the seized materials have been moved to their headquarters for forensic testing and weight verification.

One male suspect was apprehended at the scene while his accomplices managed to flee into nearby bushes according to an account by Citi Newsroom. The identity of the detained individual has not been publicly released as the Narcotics Control Commission says it is currently conducting an interrogation to identify the kingpins behind the shipment. The suspect is expected to face charges related to the possession and transportation of prohibited substances.

The NACOC public affairs directorate told the media that the commission has intensified its monitoring of border towns to curb the rising trend of drug trafficking. This recent operation follows a series of similar interceptions in the Volta Region. The commission has urged the public to report suspicious activities in their communities to help the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies combat organized crime and narcotics trade.
