Officials from the Ghana Immigration Service intercepted a vehicle at the Aflao border crossing carrying twelve individuals suspected of entering the country illegally. According to a Ghana News Agency report, the officers discovered several packages of a dry leafy substance believed to be cannabis concealed within specialized compartments of the vehicle. The operation occurred during a routine security sweep conducted by the Aflao sector command.
A report from Graphic Online indicates that the suspects included nationals from various West African countries. The Ghana Immigration Service stated that the individuals did not possess valid travel documents at the time of their arrest. Security personnel discovered the suspected narcotics after a thorough physical inspection of the vehicle chassis and side panels as noted by Citi Newsroom.
The Aflao Tactical Team led the operation and subsequently handed over the seized substances to the Narcotics Control Commission for forensic analysis. A statement from the Ghana Immigration Service confirmed that the twelve suspects remain in custody pending further investigations into their immigration status and their alleged involvement in cross border drug trafficking. The names of the suspects have not been officially released to the public.
Authorities at the Aflao border have increased surveillance following this seizure to prevent the smuggling of illicit goods and the entry of undocumented persons. According to local media reports from GhanaWeb, the vehicle used in the alleged crime has been impounded by the state. The Ghana Immigration Service has reiterated its commitment to securing the national borders against organized crime and unauthorized entry.
