The Narcotics Control Commission NACOC plans to be present in all districts across Ghana. This is according to the Minister for the Interior Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka. Currently NACOC operates in only 66 out of 261 districts in the country.
The Minister explained that the limited reach is caused by insufficient personnel and equipment. He spoke before Parliament's Public Assurance Committee.
The government intends to achieve this nationwide presence within the next five to six years. This expansion is part of efforts to enhance drug control measures.
This plan aims to strengthen the fight against illicit drug activities. A presence in all districts will improve surveillance and interdiction capabilities. It will also allow for better community engagement and awareness programs.
