Ghana is starting to allow people to grow and manage cannabis for specific purposes. The Narcotics Control Commission is now taking applications for these licenses.

This new system began on February 26, 2026. The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, officially launched the national licensing regime.

The licenses are strictly for cannabis varieties that have a low amount of THC, a compound found in cannabis.

This initiative allows for the cultivation of cannabis for industrial use. It also permits its use for medicinal purposes.

The government sees this as a way to build a new economic sector. It aims to create opportunities through controlled cannabis production.

Further details on the licensing requirements and regulations are expected from the Narcotics Control Commission.
