The Narcotics Control Commission has intercepted a significant quantity of suspected cocaine at the Tema Port during a routine inspection of incoming cargo. According to a MyJoyOnline report the illegal substances were hidden within a container that arrived at the port facility recently. Officials from the commission alongside personnel from the Ghana Revenue Authority Customs Division identified the suspicious packages during a physical examination of the manifest.

Two clearing agents who were allegedly involved in the processing of the shipment have been taken into custody. A Citi Newsroom report indicates that the suspects are currently being questioned by security agencies to determine the origin and final destination of the cargo. The names of the suspects have not been released to the public while investigators pursue leads involving potential international connections to the shipment.

The value of the seized drugs is estimated to be worth several million Ghana Cedis according to preliminary assessments cited by a GhanaWeb report. The Narcotics Control Commission stated that the substances have been forwarded to the Ghana Standards Authority for laboratory analysis to confirm their chemical composition and purity levels. This forensic verification is a standard procedure before formal charges are filed in court.

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has not issued a separate statement but officials confirmed to journalists that security protocols at the entry points remain heightened. The commission maintains that this seizure is part of an ongoing effort to disrupt the flow of narcotics through maritime borders. All suspects are presumed innocent until a court of competent jurisdiction proves otherwise through a formal trial process.
