Officers from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority at the Aflao border point intercepted a significant quantity of suspected narcotic substances concealed within vehicle spare parts. According to a GhanaWeb report confirmed by local border security officials the substances were hidden inside hollowed out engine blocks and gearboxes. The shipment was allegedly destined for transit into a neighboring country when it was flagged for inspection.

The interception occurred during a routine scanning and physical examination of a commercial vehicle. A Graphic Online report states that the narcotics are believed to be cannabis sativa although official laboratory testing by the Narcotics Control Commission is still pending. Customs officials indicated that the sophisticated concealment method was designed to evade traditional detection methods at the frontier.

The driver of the vehicle and two other individuals were detained at the scene for questioning. A Citi Newsroom report notes that the suspects are currently in the custody of the Aflao District Police Command while investigations continue into the origin of the shipment. Authorities have not yet released the names of the individuals involved pending formal charges in court.

The Ghana Revenue Authority issued a statement praising the vigilance of the officers on duty. The agency emphasized that security at the eastern border has been heightened to combat the illegal trafficking of banned substances. Evidence gathered at the scene including the vehicle and the seized engine parts has been impounded by the state according to official police records.
