Personnel from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority at the Aflao collection point intercepted a haul of suspected cannabis being smuggled through the border. According to a Ghana News Agency report, the illicit substances were discovered during a routine physical examination of a vehicle entering Ghana from Togo.
Customs officials stated that the suspects utilized a sophisticated concealment method by stuffing numerous parcels of the green leafy substance into spare tires. A report from Citi Newsroom confirms that the vehicle and its contents were impounded immediately after the discovery by the border security team.
The driver of the vehicle was detained at the scene and subsequently handed over to the Narcotics Control Commission for questioning. Officers involved in the operation told the Ghana News Agency that the weight and street value of the seized narcotics are currently being determined through official forensic analysis.
The Ghana Revenue Authority maintains that border security has been tightened to prevent the influx of prohibited goods. Investigators from the Narcotics Control Commission are working to identify the intended recipients and the origin of the shipment as part of a broader crackdown on regional drug trafficking.
