The Ashaiman Divisional Police Command has apprehended two young men suspected of possessing illegal narcotics following a tactical operation in the Greater Accra Region. According to a Citi Newsroom report the arrests occurred when officers executed a raid at a location identified as a potential hideout for criminal activities within the Ashaiman municipality.
During the search of the premises police personnel discovered and seized several wraps of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp. A GhanaWeb report states that the items were concealed in various containers intended to avoid detection. The suspects whose identities have not been officially released by the Ghana Police Service were taken into custody immediately following the discovery of the substances.
The Ashaiman Divisional Police Command currently holds the suspects at a local station for further interrogation. A report by Graphic Online indicates that the seized materials have been tagged as evidence and will be forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory of the Ghana Police Service for comprehensive testing and verification of the substance type.
While the specific ages and occupations of the detainees remain unconfirmed by official police statements the authorities have indicated that the operation forms part of a broader strategy to curb drug related crimes in the area. The suspects are expected to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction once investigations are concluded and formal charges are prepared by the prosecution team.
