The Ghana Police Service and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority conducted a joint operation resulting in the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected Indian hemp near the Aflao border. According to reports from MyJoyOnline and Citi Newsroom, the substances were discovered on Tuesday evening hidden within a specialized compartment of a heavy duty truck.

Security officials at the border post stated that the vehicle was attempting to cross from the Volta Region into Togo when it was flagged for a secondary inspection. A GhanaWeb report indicates that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene during the initial stages of the search and remains at large while investigations continue.

The narcotics were wrapped in compressed brown paper packages to evade detection by sniffer dogs and manual inspection. The Ghana Police Service has not yet released the exact weight or estimated street value of the seized goods but confirmed that the substances have been forwarded to the forensic laboratory for testing.

Regional security coordinators told MyJoyOnline that this seizure follows an increase in surveillance along the eastern corridor to combat cross border smuggling. Authorities are currently working with Togolese security counterparts to identify the owner of the truck and the intended recipients of the illegal cargo.
