The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the conviction of Beauty Alakwe, a 34 year old Nigerian national, for assaulting her nine year old daughter at Duase near Kenyasi in the Ashanti Region.

Alakwe was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment with hard labour and fined GHC 6,000 by the Circuit Court at Tafo in Kumasi on December 23 2025. The court further ordered that she be committed to prison after she failed to pay the fine.

According to the police, Alakwe was arrested on November 22 2025 following a complaint lodged by a resident of Duase. The matter was subsequently investigated by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Kenyase District Police Command.

Prosecutors told the court that investigations confirmed the assault of the minor, leading to charges being brought against the accused. The court found her guilty and imposed both custodial and financial penalties.

In addition to the sentence, the court directed social welfare officers to take steps to ensure the welfare of the victim. The order includes arrangements for the child’s care and eventual reunification with family members in Nigeria.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command commended members of the public for cooperating with the police and reporting the incident. The command cautioned against mob justice and urged the public to continue using lawful channels when dealing with suspected abuse cases.

Police reiterated their commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons and encouraged communities to report abuse promptly to allow for timely intervention.
