A Kasoa Circuit Court has ordered the remand of a thirty four year old man into police custody following allegations of a severe physical assault against his domestic partner. The suspect appeared before the court to face charges related to domestic violence and causing physical harm according to a 3News report published recently. The names of the suspect and the victim have been withheld to protect the privacy of those involved in the ongoing legal proceedings.
The prosecution informed the court that the incident occurred in the Kasoa area where a disagreement between the couple escalated into physical violence. According to the 3News report the suspect allegedly inflicted multiple injuries on the victim during the encounter. The victim subsequently sought medical attention and reported the matter to the Ghana Police Service for intervention and formal charges.
During the court session the presiding judge denied bail for the suspect to allow the police more time to complete their investigations. GhanaWeb reports that domestic violence cases in the Central Region have seen increased scrutiny from the judiciary and law enforcement agencies. The prosecution noted that the suspect remains a person of interest while they gather further forensic evidence and witness statements to build a comprehensive case.
The suspect is scheduled to reappear in court on a later date to enter a plea or face further examination of the evidence. Daily Guide Network notes that the Ghana Police Service continues to encourage victims of domestic abuse to report incidents to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit. The court emphasised that the suspect remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law despite the current remand order.
