Police in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have launched a manhunt for a man identified as Kofi Emma, also known as Blackee, in connection with the death of a 23 year old woman at Gomoa Buduburam. The deceased has been identified as Theresa Darkoah, also known as Afia.

According to preliminary information from police and accounts provided by a close friend of the deceased, the incident followed a dispute over an amount of one hundred Ghana cedis. The friend told journalists that she had known Theresa for a long time and that they worked together. She said the suspect had expressed romantic interest in Theresa, but Theresa had indicated that she did not share the same feelings.

The friend alleged that the situation escalated when the suspect requested to visit Theresa at her residence. Theresa reportedly told him that her standing fan was faulty and that the heat made it difficult for her to host him. She allegedly asked him to send GH¢100 to repair the fan before the visit.

According to the account, the suspect sent the money but later demanded a refund after Theresa stopped responding to his calls. The friend claimed that the suspect issued threats, including a warning that he would kill Theresa if the money was not returned. She said she attempted to calm the suspect and assured him that the money would be refunded, but he continued to demand repayment.

Not long after the exchange, Theresa reportedly called her friend complaining of chest pains and feeling seriously unwell. She was rushed to a hospital on a motorcycle but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Hospital staff later indicated that she had ingested a poisonous substance.

The friend further alleged that the suspect had earlier stated that if he did not come to Theresa himself, he would send someone. It later emerged that a person had reportedly delivered medicine to Theresa before she fell ill. Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the person who delivered the substance or the exact nature of what was administered.

The suspect is currently on the run, and police say efforts are underway to locate and arrest him to assist with investigations. Authorities have not yet disclosed the results of any toxicology tests or a post mortem examination.

Police have urged the public to provide any information that could help locate the suspect. They have also cautioned against speculation, stressing that investigations are ongoing and that all allegations will be tested through due process. As with all criminal matters, the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
