Police have arrested and granted bail to a 20-year-old woman. Her name is Promise Yayra Asamani.
She was arrested for posting false information on social media. This happened on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The Ghana Police Service is investigating.
Ms. Asamani accused a 43-year-old Uber driver, Selasie Kwaku Anthonio, of being a murderer. She made these claims in a viral post on Snapchat.
The post also included a photograph of Mr. Anthonio. This caused distress and damage to his reputation.
Mr. Anthonio reported the incident to the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team. This unit deals with online crimes.
The team investigated the claim and arrested Ms. Asamani. She has been granted police enquiry bail.
The investigation is ongoing. The Ghana Police Service urges the public to verify information before sharing it online.
