Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman, Promise Yayra Asamani, for publishing false information on social media. The arrest was made by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.

The situation began on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, when a 43-year-old Uber driver reported an incident to the police. He identified himself as Selasie Kwaku Anthonio.

The driver informed the police about a viral post on Snapchat. This post included his photograph and made accusations against him.

Law enforcement officials investigated the driver’s complaint. Based on their findings, they took Asamani into custody.

She was charged with publishing false news, an offense under social media regulations.

Asamani has since been granted police enquiry bail. An enquiry bail means she must report to the police regularly while they continue their investigation.

The Ghana Police Service is committed to addressing the spread of false information online.
